Iberia team goes 2-1 in first three games at state

LAKE CHARLES -- The New Iberia Little League All-Stars, representing Iberia Parish, are 2-1 in their first three games at the Little League State Senior League (age 15-16) Tournament at Brentwood Park.

Avoyelles Parish beat Iberia 16-2 in the local team’s tournament opener on Friday. Iberia Parish rallied to beat Mid City Lake Charles 12-11 on Saturday and then beat Jackson Parish 11-7 on Sunday.

Iberia plays Amite today at Brentwood Park.

Team members for Iberia Parish include Dylan Boudreaux, Warren Bodin, Tyler Businelle, Reginald Charles, Todd Cuccio, Derick Delcambre, Jake Delcambre, Nicholas Lancon, Cullen Palmature, Brody Romero, Jed Segura and Christian Viator.

Craig Palmature is the manager and Brennon Robicheaux the coach.

Avoyelles 16, Iberia 2

On Friday, Businelle doubled and Segura singled and doubled for Iberia Parish, but Avoyelles Parish earned the win.

Ladarius Duskins went four innings on the mound for the win, allowing three walks and striking out five. Dylan West allowed one walk in an inning of relief.

Viator took the loss for Iberia, allowing three walks and striking out four in 42⁄3 innings. Businelle walked one in a third of an inning.

Iberia 12, Mid City 11

Each team had nine hits in a four-hour nailbiter on Saturday, with Derick Delcambre walk and stealing second and third before scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Lancon’s sacrifice fly to center field.

Mid City committed six errors and Iberia Parish had three.

Lancon also pitched five innings, walking five and striking out four. Derick Delcambre, Brody Romero and Jake Delcambre pitched in relief.

Antonio Hagans allowed five walks and struck out two for Mid City. Dwayne Prudhomme and Donovan McKay pitched in relief.

Derick Delcambre went 2-for-3 with a double for Iberia. Viator was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in the first inning, and Lancon was 1-for-2 with a solo homer in the fifth inning.

Delcambre and Viator each reached on walks and Lancon walked twice.

Iberia 11, Jackson Parish 7

Iberia Parish outhit Jackson 9-6, with each team committing three errors on Sunday.,

Romero got the win, allowing five walks and striking out six in six innings. Businelle pitched in relief.

Zack Cheatwood took the loss, allowing a walk and striking out two in 31⁄3 innings. Bret Tolar pitched in relief.

Viator went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and a walk for Iberia. Brody Romero went 2-for-3 with a walk.
