Lewd acts in area department store lead to arrest

A New Iberia man has been charged with performing lewd acts in a New Iberia store.

Michael Louviere, 35, of 635 Rosalie St., has been charged with obscenity, being a Peeping Tom, possession of marijuana and resisting an officer by flight, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

IPSO Deputies were called to a business, located in the 1100 block of Admiral Doyle Drive, at around 11:45 a.m. Saturday in response to a report of a male performing a lewd act. The sheriff’s department would not indicate this morning which store the incident took place at.

Upon arrival, deputies were informed that the suspect had been watching female customers through a hole in the wall. Upon being confronted by deputies, the suspect first denied the allegations but then admitted to making a hole in the wall and watching female customers through it while performing a lewd act.

The suspect fled on foot and was apprehended after a brief chase and taken into custody, a press release said. A search of the suspect resulted in deputies finding a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana as well as a hand-rolled cigarette, according to the press release.

Louviere was transported to Iberia Parish Jail. where he was booked on the assorted charges. He remains there on $15,000 bond.
