Lopez leads New Iberia past Heymann

Stefan Lopez scattered eight hits and allowed two runs in nine innings of work as the New Iberia Holiday Sporting Goods Cajuns advanced to the winner’s bracket final against Delhomme with a 6-2 win over the Heymann Chiefs Friday in the American Legion Sub-regional Tournament at Acadian Park.

Lopez struck out six in picking up the win.

The Cajuns scored two runs in the first and third innings and single runs in the fourth and seventh to improved to 22-6-1 on the year.

Lopez helped his own cause with two hits, an RBI-double in the first and a two-run homer in the third, for the Cajuns.

Thomas Latiolais had a solo homer, his second in three games, Jason Mouton added a double and scored two runs and Jacob Lopez had a hit and scored a run in the win.

Kameron Anthony went eight innings and allowed all six runs to take the loss for Heymann.

Ridge Ridgedell and Brad Guidry scored the only two runs for Heymann. Matt Leblanc had two hits for the Chiefs.

Delhomme 8, Abbeville 7, 10 innings

Greg Fontenot’s single through a drawn-in infield in the bottom of the 10th innings scored Josh Ezell with the winning run as the Delhomme Drillers advanced to the winner’s bracket final with a win over Abbeville Friday night.

Ezell had three hits in the game, including two homers, and knocked in four runs for the Drillers. Corey Broussard had an RBI single and scored a run for Delhomme. Grant Falcon, Beau Pitre, Josh McGrew and Rickey Menard each had a single.

Daniel Cloteaux, who pitched nine innings on Thursday, pitched two innings of relief to pick up the win.

Ethan Hebert took the loss for Abbeville in relief. Post 29 starter Jacob Frederick was ejected in the fifth for arguing balls and strikes and Tommy Frederick pitched three innings of relief before giving way to Hebert.

Trey Broussard had three hits, including a home run, and scored four runs for Abbeville. Tony Frederick doubled, Jake Faulk singled and Will Armstong doubled and scored a run for Abbeville.

Eunice 9, Opelousas 8

Mitch Fusilier had two hits and scored three runs as Eunice staved off elimination Friday with a win over the Opelousas Indians.

Kendall Sam scored two runs, Ethan Moser had a hit and scored a run and Tyler Fontenot scored a run for the Oilers, who played Abbeville Saturday.

Stuart Turner started and picked up the win for Eunice.

Kyle Arnaud took the loss for Opelousas.

Dustin Ardoin had three hits, including a two-run homer, Kyle Vidrine had a hit and scored two runs for the Indians and Caleb Castille doubled.

Sam Houston 6, Crowley 4

Dillion Johnson had a home run and a double, Grant Cox singled and scored a run, Phillip Menou doubled and scored a run as Sam Houston knocked Crowley out of the tournament with a win Friday.

Cox pitched 12⁄3 innings of relief for the win for the Broncos.

Jake Trahan took the loss for Crowley.

Bryant Gilbert and Matt Savoy each had an RBI singles in the loss for Crowley.
