A native of New Iberia, Mrs. Pharr attended and graduated from the Academy of Sacred Heart at Grand Coteau and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from Dominican College in New Orleans. She taught elementary school in Arlington, Mass., for two years before eventually returning to her native New Iberia. She was a Eucharistic Minister often bringing communion to the sick and elderly. Mrs. Pharr also served on the Iberia Commission of Tourism, was a Board Member of the Shadows-on-the-Teche and was very involved with fundraising activities, including being a major contributor to the Shadows-on-the-Teche Cookbook, a tour guide and Event Planner for the Christmas and Easter celebrations as well as the popular Spring Jazz Brunch. She was a member of the Krewe of Iberians and a past Queen of the Krewe of Andalusia. She was well known for her hat collection, cooking skills and love of entertaining. Her extensive travels took her on sailing trips to the Caribbean, and to many international destinations, where she befriended many, especially the Roy family from Paris, France. On a trip to Jakarta, Indonesia, she taught a cooking class to the natives. With the arrival of her two granddaughters, she took special pride in sewing beautiful heirloom dresses for them. “Lalie,” as she was called by her granddaughters, never missed a chance to spend time with them.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Mark Reese Pharr Jr., of New Iberia; her son Mark “Tiger” Reese Pharr III and wife, Allyson Fox Pharr, of Lafayette; brother Verne Lawrence “Larry” Thibodeaux Jr. and wife, Mary, of New Iberia; grandchildren Alexandra Reese Pharr and Olivia Fox Pharr of Lafayette; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, V.L. “Tibby” Thibodeaux Sr. and Alberta Decuir Thibodeaux; and a sister Marie Claire Thibodeaux.

A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, 5 until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., in New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday from 8 until 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. G. Douglas Sagrera, Dr. David Rinaldi and the nursing staff of Iberia General Medical Center.
