The second-degree murder trial of Lester Williams, 56, of 3506 W. Spanish Trail, has been moved to Sept. 29. Williams is charged with one count of second-degree murder in the Feb. 20, 2006, death of his wife, Cynthia, who was 52.
Jury selection in the case began Monday at the Iberia Parish Courthouse. Assistant District Attorney for the 16th Judicial District Bo Duhe is prosecuting the case, and Williams is represented by defense lawyer Ferdinand Valteau III.

“We fully expect it will take place in September, and we are abiding with the judges ruling,” Haney said.
Cynthia Williams’ death was ruled a strangulation, and two days later her husband was charged in connection with her death.
Haney said, if convicted, Williams is facing an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole, probation or suspended sentence.
“The change of the trial date will not impact our case against Mr. Williams,” Duhe said.
