A building permit for Hampton Inn, to be located in Spanish Town Center, was pulled during the month with an estimated value of the building reported as $1,5 million.

The new North Lewis Street Elementary School began construction during the month with an estimated value of $9.3 million and Community First Bank began construction on its new corporate headquarters on Jefferson Terrace with an estimated value of $450,000.
Residential building permits were active during the month, as well, with the total valuation of proposed projects coming in at $948,626. Nearly half of that amount was new construction inside city limits.
Three permits for pools were filed during the month, evidence of attempts by Teche Area residents to beat the summer heat. The total valuation of those swimming pools was reported as $94,995.
The Iberia Parish permit office reported a healthy number of new residential construction permits. The total valuation of nine new construction permits was $2,113,665. The commercial sector was just as busy with new sites and expansions totaling $4,849,955.
“I think that rates are still historically low and are very competitive and long term financing options are good right now,” said Mike Tarantino, executive director with the Iberia Industrial Development Foundation. “We are beginning to see companies enter into new budget years, and I think we will start to see even more commercial activity as companies in the oil and gas patch begin to spend more money.”
