Cajuns win pool, Franklin splits two

CROWLEY — The New Iberia Holiday Sporting Goods Cajuns won two games and lost one and Franklin split a pair of games at the Crowley Tournament in games played Friday and Saturday.

New Iberia beat Sam Houston 11-3 on Friday, dropped a 3-2 decision to Bell’s Saturday morning and beat New Iberia Senior High-based Cajun Sting 3-0 Saturday afternoon to win their pool at the tournament.

Franklin played two games on Friday, beating host Crowley 5-2 but dropping an 11-2 decision to Plaquemine.

The Cajuns will play in the first semifinal contest today at 10 a.m. against an opponent that had yet to be determined.

If New Iberia wins, they will play in the tournament championship game at 3 p.m. today.

Both teams return to District 3-Central play this week as Franklin travels to Abbeville on Tuesday and plays host to New Iberia Thursday.

Cajuns 11, Sam Houston 3

Drew Callahan had two hits and drove in two runs for the Cajuns, Jason Mouton had two hits, including a two-RBI single, Jacob Lopez also added a two-RBI single in the win.

Thomas Latiolais, Josh Perez and Matt Geoffroy each had singles in the win.

Individual statistics for Sam Houston were not available.

Bell’s 3, Cajuns 2

Josh Perez tripled and scored a run, Drew Callahan singled and scored a run but Bell’s was able to push across two runs in the fourth and a third run in the fifth to hold off New Iberia 3-2 Saturday morning.

Brandon Anderson and Jacob Jambon each had RBIs in the loss

Kipper Messenger and Ryan Bonin each pitched in the loss for New Iberia.

Bryce Martel and Colton Daigle each had RBI-singles for Bell’s.

Cajuns 3, Cajun Sting 0

Jacob Jambon and Josh Perez each had RBI singles in the fourth inning and Pat Neustrom had three hits and scored a run as New Iberia beat Cajun Sting 3-0.

Stefan Lopez and Thomas Latiolais each had a hit and Perez added another hit for the Cajuns, who improved to 8-4-1 on the year.

Brandon Anderson picked up the win for New Iberia.

Dylan Maturin had a single for Cajun Sting.

Franklin 5, Crowley 2

The Franklin Legionnaires scored three runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and beat Crowley 5-2 Friday.

Levi Moore had an RBI single and Jake Concienne and Jacob Treadway each had squeeze bunts in the sixth that scored runs as Franklin won its first game of the year.

Christian Steiner pitched one inning and allowed one run on one hit for the win for Franklin. Concienne pitched two innings of one hit ball for the save.

Ladd Hidalgo and Steiner each had two hits, while Moore, Jordan Sanchez, Shaquille Conner and Mikey Payton each had a hit in the win.

Plaquemine 11, Franklin 2

Jacob Treadway gave up six runs, two earned, on six hits in three innings to take the loss for Franklin (1-3). Ladd Hidalgo allowed five runs on three hits in two innings.

Hidalgo, Mikey Payton and Christian Steiner each had a hit in the loss.
