I am sick and tired of people hiding behind pseudonyms (fake names) and making some of the most outlandish remarks possible about race and then claiming that there are no racist undertones...Stand up and say something positive about other people for a change or make your comments about these subjects without being so blatant in your prejudice...
This forum is open to anyone who has an opinion in the affirmative or negative direction...I want to see if I'm the only one who feels that this is detrimental to the image of New Iberia or if some of these blatant racists would like to defend their "positions"...

Yes, Brown, there are people who will help students learn and understand outside of the classroom. Look at central and SW Louisiana and the aftermath of hurricane Rita. We took care of our own. We got in boats and helped neighbors. As soon as the storm was over, my husband and my brother went check on relatives and friends who didn't evacuate, making sure they were okay and had enough supplies. BUT, the Cajun people are self-sufficient people. We don't look to handouts. We take care of our own.
Reverend Brown, when are you going to wake up? New Iberia doesn't need civil rights leaders. I don't hear anyone complaining about no civil rights. Maybe your time and energy would be better served in Los Angeles or NYC.

Just because I grew up in a single parent home, I was not disadvantaged or disenfranchised. My mother knew all of my friends. She knew where I was at all times of the day and night. My mother taught me about God and respect for others, as well as for myself. She taught me to value and respect human life. She single handedly raised an independent, successful, church going, law abiding citizen of the community.
Why are so many young black men in jail? Why can't they go to school and get jobs, instead of committing the crimes that landed them in jail? Every school has after care and early care nowadays. Why are so many children hanging out in the streets after school?

My grandmother was a child in Japan when we bombed them at the end of WWII. She held no hatred or animosity for this country or the government that gave the bombing orders. In fact, she came to this country after the war, became an American citizen, and now travels with her church group to do mission work with poor people all over the country.
My point is, each race has been tyrannized by another race at one point in history. Go back to the Roman Empire, Reverend, or the crusades, when the Catholic Church terrorized everyone. No one holds it against the present day Church, do they? "

When I went to school, I did not see anyone stopping children from entering the school. It was, after all, a free public education we were all looking for. The tax money my parents paid to the government, helped create those schools. So the government that is "behind" this "put the black man down" way of thinking, is also spending money to educate only white children? How, pray tell? The law stipulates at what age a child my quit school. Any child, not just blacks.
If that is the case, is it because of the white man that there is so much teen pregnancy, fatherless children, poverty, despair? I went to public school. I went from K - 12th grade, and I received my diploma. It was tough work. But I had my parents right there watching what I was doing. I still got to run around with my friends, but I had to have my homework done. No tv or radio if my homework was not done. No one had more than one tv in their house, certainly not even in a bed room.
Take away the video games, I did for my children, also the tv. One hour a day is all they were allowed. Before they were in middle school, they knew enough to have the work done before I got home. If it wasn't done, I wanted to know why. I knew where they were going, I would check up on them. Am I to strickt? I have one starting in Med School, one in an MBA program, and the third will be starting in college next year. All from a public education start. "
