A celebration of life will be held for Alvin Butler, 86, at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers Baptist Church with the Rev. Carroll Crofton officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Travelers Baptist Church Cemetery followed with full military honors.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

A native of Olivier and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Butler died Monday, June 23, 2008 at his residence at 9:41 a.m.

He was the oldest member of Zion Travelers Baptist Church. He also was a veteran of the United States Army.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories his son, Donald Butler (Janelle) of Boston; devoted nephews and caregivers, Robert J. Butler Sr. and Willie “Sonny” Butler, both of New Iberia; grandchildren, Melissa Walsh, Danelle Butler, Jeffery Butler, Angela Butler and Nathan Butler; brother-in-law, Elder Edward Johnson of Calif; devoted caregiver, John “Babee” Butler Jr. of New Iberia; 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and friends.

He joins in glory, his parents, Willie Butler and Orelia Hector Butler; brother, Leonard Butler and sisters, Susie Lee Butler, Lunetta Butler, Elnora B. Johnson, Mary Jane Butler and Ethel B. Findley.

Pallbearers will be Wendell T. Auguster, Robert J. Butler Jr., Bashannon Butler, Jerry Narcisse Sr., Alvin Beals and Ronald Hector.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert J. Butler Sr., Willie “Sonny” Butler, John Butler Jr., Kenneth Gregoire, Alfonzo Archon, Jamon Charles, Alfred Beals Jr., Robert Gregoire, Leonard White, Calvin Sigure Jr. and Nolan Broussard.
