Clyde T. Johnston

MORGAN CITY — Clyde Thomas Johnston, a longtime resident of Morgan City, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, following an extended illness. He was 76 years old.

Clyde was born in 1931 in Norphlet, Ark., and spent his youth in New Iberia. He attended New Iberia High and then graduated from SLI (now UL of Lafayette) in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration.

He was employed by Bethlehem Steel Corp. upon graduation and remained with the company until his retirement. During the course of his career, he served as store manager, district manager and vice president of production. His career spanned over 35 years.

Clyde was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf and gardening. He earned his pilot license in 1967 and loved flying as an amateur pilot. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling. Clyde was one of the founders and past presidents of the Halter Island Red Fish Rodeo and a former president of the St. Mary Golf and Country Club.

He was married to Nancy Duvall Johnston for over 52 years. During the course of their marriage, they lived in New Iberia, Laurel, Miss., Houston and Tulsa, Okla., but preferred calling Morgan City home. They have made and maintained many wonderful friends in the area.

Clyde is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Bessie Lord Johnston; and one sister Darlene Johnston Drake, all formerly of New Iberia.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters Kathryn Johnston Inzina and her husband, Michael, of Monroe, and Lynda Johnston Falgout of Morgan City. He also leaves behind three grandchildren Matthew Paul Falgout and his wife, Tessie Hargrave Falgout, of Lafayette, and Kaley Kathryn Falgout, also of Lafayette. He is survived by three great-grandchildren who include Maillie Michelle Falgout and Adam Thomas Falgout.

A memorial service will be held Monday, June 23, 2008, at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City from 5 until 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Vasculitis Foundation (www.vasculitisfoundation.com) or the Kidney Foundation (www.kidneyfoundation.com).
