The board accepted the resignation of the District 14 representative, who said he is leaving the board because of an employment opportunity at the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office that would benefit his family. It is against the law for IPSO employees to serve on the School Board.
District 8 board member Edwin J. Buford said during discussion of the resignation, out of respect for Romero he would like to go on the record as “reluctantly accepting the resignation.”

The School Board also commended a recent Loreauville High School graduate, Stephen Vice, at its meeting Wednesday for his selection as the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship awarded by Poche Prouet Associates.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating senior who plans to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in either engineering or architecture.
The board also accepted a certificate of substantial completion as suggested by Architect’s Design Studio for the Jefferson Island Road Elementary School construction project.
Under the guidance of Herman Gesser from the Gesser Group, the board could not accept a suggestion of substantial completion for the Magnolia Elementary School Project.
Board vice president Elvin Pradia said there were a few key items left on the list to complete before a certificate of substantial completion could be accepted.
Otherwise, the School Board would have to accept liability on the property.
In other business:
The board approved a staff request to auction 10 surplus portable buildings, three in poor shape and seven in fair to good shape, setting no minimum bid and awarding the buildings to the highest bidder.
The highest bidder will be responsible for moving the buildings off School Board property.
