Nara Crowley, vice-president of the community group Save Lake Peigneur, said she is “ecstatic” about the signing, which will limit the amount of water Atlanta-based AGL Resources can draw from the aquifer. AGL intends to use the water for the creation of two new salt caverns at its Jefferson Island Storage and Hub facility at Lake Peigneur.
“We’re aware this may not be over,” Crowley said. “It won’t be over until AGL decides to stop its expansion at the JISH. We’re not going to stop fighting.”

“The Legislature and governor have acted and we will certainly respect the new law,” Poston said. “As far as future expansion, we are evaluating our options right now.”
Crowley describes AGL’s pursuit to expand indicates the company is callous to what lake area residents think.
“Also, our salt dome at Lake Peigneur has isolated issues that don’t exist at any other salt dome,” Crowley said. “Specifically, there are more than 5,000 residents in the area, being located on a lake, as well as the ongoing and unexplained bubbling.”
