Irene M. Veazey

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Irene Mary Veazey, 78, who died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 in Lafayette.

Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Rev. Charles Langlois will be the Celebrant. Readers will be Ali Klentzman and Michelle Morris.

A native of New Iberia, Irene worked for a short time at the Rosary House and the Pelican Creamery. She then retired from South Central Bell. Irene loved to bake and her goodness was happily shared with her family. Her hobbies included quilting, gardening and painting.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Gail Toups, Jean Toups, Eric Riggs, Ruth Robin, Sherry Riggs, Avery Riggs, Eugene Veazey, Catherine Veazey, Mary Veazey Landry, Keith Landry, Vincent Paul Veazey, Kenneth Veazey, Winston “Pappy” Broussard, Diane Broussard, Patricia Armentor, Marvin Broussard, Donald Hugonin, Carmen Morris, Charles Hugonin, Carl Hugonin, Joyce Latiolais, Howard Decuir, Barbara Kelly, Elizabeth Kelly, Nancy Kelly, Mark Kelly and Patricia Kelly; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Eunice Bouligny Veazey; brothers, Howard Riggs and Vincent Veazey; half-brothers, Leonard Veazey and Loyd Veazey; sisters, Evelyn Riggs Hugonin, Margaret Decuir and Vivian Kelly; and nephews, Michael Kelly and Albert Decuir.

Pallbearers will be Albert “Dukey” Decuir, Howard Decuir, III, Logan Nix, Avery Riggs, Christopher Morris, Nicholas Gonzales and Matthew Gonzales.

Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Decuir, Winston “Pappy” Broussard and Mark Kelly.

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m.
