The Iberia Parish Conven-tion and Visitors Bureau will host a travel and tourism open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in conjunction with the 25th annual National Tourism Week.

The Bureau said the event will include door prizes, refreshments and free travel information for Iberia Parish and the state.

The open house will also feature an exhibit on Iberia Parish attractions and an art exhibit by L’Acadian Art Guild.

The Bureau will recognize ambassador volunteers who Fran Thibodeaux, executive director of IPCVB said, were a valuable asset.

“The ambassadors are travel counselors who help visitors learn about the parish and the state,” she said. “They are the face of our community.”

Thibodeaux said the purpose of the annual open house “is to target local citizens and let them see what the parish and the state have to offer for the upcoming summer vacation season.”

The IPCVB will elect new officers and pass a resolution in support of a bid to host Congress Mondial Acadien in 2014 at its monthly meeting at 11 p.m.

Congress Mondial Acadien is a gathering of Acadian descendants every five years with the 2009 event in Nova Scotia.

The bid for the gathering is by the state.

However, Thibodeaux said she would love to see south Louisiana play host. Bids for hosting the event are due in the fall of 2008 with results announced during the 2009 event.
