‘Granny’ accused of selling drugs BY JEFF MOORETHE DAILY IBERIAN BALDWIN — A 61-year-old woman was arrested Friday on charges of selling prescription painkillers, police said Monday. Darlene A. Dupre, of Lafayette, was charged with distribution of Schedule IV narcotics. She was booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail on a $100,000 bond. Baldwin Police Chief Gerald Minor said he saw what appeared to be a drug deal between two vehicles in the parking lot of Dollar General on Main Street. He said officers found about 10 Oxycontin pills after stopping one of the vehicles on Louisiana 83. The driver, Reed Thibodeaux, 29, of Rayne, admitted buying the pills from Dupre. Officers located Dupre about two hours later at Cypress Bayou Casino. Minor said she had “numerous” Oxycontin and Lortab pills in her possession. “It’s not too often we catch a granny dealing drugs,” he said. |
