BREAUX BRIDGE — Plenty of new faces will be on the job when the 2008-09 academic school year begins after the St. Martin Parish School Board approved four recommendations from Superintendent Richard Lavergne.

Ronald LeBlanc, principal at Scott Middle School in the Lafayette Parish school system, filled the first job Wednesday night when he was named director of operations and administration.

Earlier this year, Board members approved creating the post after not having it for a couple of years.

“We had five certified and qualified applicants who applied for the job of director of operations and administration,” Lavergne said. “Those applicants were Al Blanchard, St. Martin Parish school system elementary supervisor, Tonya Lancon Lafayette Parish school system gifted and talented teacher, Brian Stanton, Parks Elementary teacher, Sammy Wininger, St. Martin Parish school system supervisor of operations, and LeBlanc.

“For the last 13 years, Ron has been an excellent principal at Scott Middle School,” Lavergne said. “He has very strong leadership skills, and with this job, he will be working with our principals and overseeing operations. He is a former middle school principal of the year, and I am very excited to have him on board.”

LeBlanc begins work in St. Martin Parish July 1.

The School Board also approved Lavergne’s recommendations for former Supervisor Malcolm Calais to take over the reins of system math supervisor, teacher Katrina Williams to take over principal duties at Breaux Bridge Elemen-tary and Breaux Bridge High School assistant principal Kara Meaux to move up to principal duties at Breaux Bridge High School.

Also during Wednesday’s meeting, the School Board approved a disbursement of the May sales tax salary supplement for teachers and administrators of $750 and support personnel of $600.
