ESA girls roll to regional win

WELSH -- Centerville’s Samantha Calhoun claimed Outstanding Track honors but it was ESA’s dominance in the longer distances that allowed the Lady Falcons to win the Class B, Region III track meet held at Welsh High School.

ESA scored 98 points to outdistance second place Lacassine (86) and third place Bethany Christian (77).

Calhoun won the 200 meters (26.55 seconds), the 400 (1:02.52) and was second in the 100 (12.89) as she scored all of Centerville’s 28 points and the Lady Bulldogs ninth-place finish.

For ESA, Lucie Pyle won the 1,600 (5:45.29) and the 800 (2:34.58) and Rachel Gulotta won the pole vault (8 feet, 3 inches).

Heidi Guillory was second in the 800 (2:35.68), Taylor Hill was second in the high jump (5-0), Maddie Schutte was second in the 100 hurdles (18.08), Blair Foster was third in the shot put (29-6), Gaylyn Deville was third in the 300 hurdles (54.90) and the Lady Falcons finished third in both the 4x100 relay (55.48) and the 4x400 relay (4:33.25).

In the boys’ meet, Lacassine won going away with 117 points while Midland was second (77), Grand Lake was third (71) and ESA finished fourth (70).

For the Falcons, Fazion Ibrahim won the shot put (47-6), Matt Conques won the 400 (52.16), Chris Prudhomme was second in the 800 (2:08.13), Max Kallenberger was second in the 110 hurdles (17.80), John English was third in the 1600 (4:59.76) and the Falcons finished second in the 4x400 relay (3:42.99).

The top three finishers advance to the state meet at LSU on Friday, May 2.
