Then head to the Bayou Country Riders’ first-ever Ride for St. Jude Poker Run Sunday and raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
In a poker run, cars and bikes travel between five different points, drawing a card at each point. At the end of the run, the person with the highest hand wins. The event also will help 2-year-old Maddox Citrano of New Iberia, who recently went to St. Jude hospital to have his eye removed due to a rare form of cancer.

Those who do not wish to participate in the poker run will have plenty to do at Bourbon Hall, where they can begin buying barbecue plate lunches for $5 at 10 a.m. Seasoned Soul and The Ross Paul Band will be performing. Seasoned Soul will be raffling off a free performance.
Wells Cornette, with Top Gun Motorcycle School, will perform motorcycle tricks and stunts. A crew will be at the event to shoot a pilot of a new TV series in which Cornette will be starring.
“Everything’s falling into place,” said Walter Derouen, president of the Bayou Country Riders and organizer of the event.
Derouen said truckloads of stuff has been donated and there will most likely be door prizes in addition to the auction.
Mayor Pro-Tem Freddie DeCourt is proclaiming Sunday “Maddox Citrano Day” and presenting the family with the keys to the city.
The event will be held rain or shine, under tents in case of rain, said Derouen.
“We’re anticipating something big,” he said. “I think it’s gonna be quite a few bikes that show up.”
Those interested in participating or donating may call Derouen at 884-5282.
Eighty percent of the poker run proceeds go to St. Jude Hospital, which pays treatment, lodging and travel costs for patients. Twenty percent of the proceeds go to New Iberia resident Amy Citrano to help with loss of income associated with cancer treatment for Maddox.
Maddox has to go back to St. Jude every six to eight weeks until he is 18 to check his other eye for cancer.
Citrano has said she thanks everyone for their support and prayers.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. Sunday at Bourbon Hall in downtown New Iberia. The poker run will begin at 10 a.m. Derouen expects the riders return around 3:30 p.m.
