No more $100s

A few bad apples — or notes to be exact — have prompted a local fast food chain to stop accepting $100 bills.

Signs were posted on every register at the East Main Street McDonald’s in New Iberia this week, announcing the restaurant was no longer accepting anything larger than a $20 bill.

Larry Miller, owner of McDonald’s, said he instituted the policy at all eight of his family’s restaurants after three fake bills were passed at locations in Vermilion Parish in the past two weeks.

“At places like ours, we’re working on a lot of orders real fast,” he said.

“You don’t always assume you’re getting a bad $100 until it’s too late.”

Miller said he is not sure how long the policy will last, but he did say he is ordering more permanent-looking signs.

A spokesman for the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office said they have received no complaints of counterfeit bills in the parish recently.
