Ding Bat Doug -Not Walking Too Tall.....

I see in the paper that one character, Doug Louviere  has taken the law into his own hands. That will only make matters worst. I bet that guy is not originally from that neighborhood. People raised around there have more  class. I think his  'Walking Stupid '  caper will hurt his mother-in-laws business. Who would be brave enough to rent a Tux from those people. Doug may come running out with his psycho baseball bat. If he does not like the area let him go buy his own home somewhere else. That nice area around the park does not need racial , paranoid radicals to ruin the image of that place.

" Explain to me something. If a person buys a home in a certain area and then does whatever it takes to protect that home and the area, then why should we expect them to relocate. If it was your neighborhood he was protecting then why put him down for the way he protects the neighborhood. Is it because you are afraid that your children or family are up to no good in the area and you know about it. Explain that to me. "

" The only thing people can throw negative comments at Doug about is the bat issue. Without the bat he is walking tall and should be proud of that. Truth be known every decent citizen in New Iberia should band together to stop crime. It doesn't take a bat just a pen and paper and a telephone. With those three items you can knock criminals out of the ball park without a bat. "

Jessica wrote on Mar 26, 2008 10:25 AM:

" As a resident of Boas, I am personally appalled by these comments. Our street is filled with families who have been petrified at night with the break-ins that have been transpiring. Instead of re-locating, Doug single handedly initiated a neighborhood watch program by soliciting door-to-door after work to get signatures, opening his home for the police to educate our street about safety, and working diligently with city officials regarding the neighborhood watch program. Let’s stop criticizing someone who is taking action for the betterment of our city, start working on solutions, and strive to remediate this crime epidemic. "

Personally, when I plan on walking in the park ,I will carry my taser, if I get jumped by thugs I will handle them one on one, if they choose to gang up like most do ,after they pull their sagging pants up ,I will tase them ,then call IPSO ,I guess ,maybe not , maybe the dog pound ,how bout that for some FORUM WRITIN . Doug as well as the rest of his brothers and father should remember where they really came from and how they behaved as young boys. Their behavior was very simuliar to the the one is his neighborhood. Real men do not need "weapons".

" Wow!! What a man!! A baseball bat. Does he also have handcuffs? The picture of Mr. Louviere carrying a baseball bat provides what the reporter needs for the article; a picture of a citizen carrying a baseball bat, which raises the curiosity of the reader and lures the reader in to read the article. I think that those who know Doug would agree that he probably does not know how to use the bat for it's intended purpose. Now, maybe he can explain to you how to use it, but not actually do it. "

" TC there isn't enough money to bring back a New Iberia City Police Department. The salaries for starting officers alone would have to beat Lafayette's police department. That ain't happening. That's not to mention all the equipment necessary for a real police department. Now throw into the gumbo pot how nasty the outgoing police officers were treated and you have a good batch of distrust. No one knows what the Koo Koo's remaining on the council from the last department disbanding would attempt to do with a new department. Your dream will never materialize TC. "

The more we shoot, the less they will loot. Sure, bringing back the city police will cost money. I'm paying a price for the break-ins I've already incurred. It's pay now or pay later. "

And personally attacking someone? How ridiculous is that??? Our town would be a much better and safer place to live and raise families if we had more neighborhood watch programs. BTW, would Helen B and LB walk streets at night without any type of protection with some thieves armed with knives, guns, etc? Cudos Mr. Louviere! "

All it would take is one hit to anyone with a bat and his world would be in a downward spiral. I applaud him for watching his neighborhood but to protect himself from some serious legal problems maybe he should lose the baseball bat. Protecting property does not trump personal injury, especially if the person being injured is unarmed no matter how bad they are. "Lawsuit" "

There was not a word in the article that implied that it was blacks that were breaking in or stealing, etc. We as Americans still have free speech, the right to protect our property and ourselves and our families. A neighborhood watch is a great thing. Everybody should wake up all over New Iberia and do the same thing. The black community needs to stop taking offense, when we whites just try and protect ourselves. Not all of us sterotype folks. Only protecting whats ours. "

Its time we all stood up and took back some of our rights in this country and one of them is protected by the 1st amendment of the U.S. constitution and that is to be able to protect yourself and your property. And even though the sheriff deputies patrol the neighborhood, these criminals seem to know when there is no patrols in the area. So lets walk the streets carrying a bat. Maybe just the sight of the bat will make them think twice about breaking in a house and stealing or hurting someone. Or breaking into a car. I support Mr. Louviere and the neighborhood he lives in.
