No explanation: Ghost hunters hear voice on tape

ST. MARTINVILLE — Some Louisiana ghost hunters are not ready to call a house they investigated in St. Martinville haunted just yet, but they are reporting one unexplained phenomenon.

On Jan. 5, the group Louisiana Spirits was called to investigate a house owned by Michelle and J.D. Kirkwood, which is one of the Olivier homes.

“We were very eager to investigate the Olivier house, especially after all of the strange happenings reported by the homeowners,” said Brad Duplechien, founder of Louisiana Spirits. “Such happenings included footsteps being heard upstairs, strange noises being heard and an upstairs door that opened on its own.”

Duplechien said the first thing they did was try to “debunk” what the Kirkwoods were reporting to make sure there were no obvious explanations for what was thought to be paranormal activity.

“We enter each case neutral, yet once all logical explanations have been ruled out, then and only then do we look at the paranormal for our findings,” Duplechien said.

There were some things that had to be ruled out early in the investigation, Duplechien said.

“Being the home is quite old, the floors seemed to creak all the way on the other side of the house when someone would walk,” he said. “Also, on an older roof, the slightest sounds echoes, giving you the idea that someone could be walking around upstairs.”

Jennifer Broussard, another member of Louisiana Spirits, said the investigation that night was “pretty uneventful.”

“There were a couple of investigators who had some personal experiences, but at the end of the night, that’s all that is, personal experiences,” Broussard said.

Broussard said she hands out forms at the beginning of each investigation so members can write down their personal experiences. She said it is done this way so they do not feed off of one another’s experiences.

“We had (a group member) who wrote about noises from the vent in the living room and noises like someone had bumped the bed,” she said.

But, Duplechien said when they began to review the audio and video recordings days after the investigation, they all noticed something that could not be explained. He said they came across a distinct voice that was not their own.

“One of our investigators was doing audio work in an attempt to capture EVPs, or electronic voice phenomena,” he said.

“Our investigator was asking questions out loud. Nothing was heard at the time the question was asked, but when the audio recording was played back, you can hear a very loud and distinct “No” from an unknown individual.”

Duplechien expects to upload that recording to the group’s Web site, www.laspirits.com, in the coming days. And, despite capturing that recording during their investigation, he said they are not ready to call the home haunted. He said they are, however, planning a follow-up investigation in the near future.

" I find it interesting that everyone seems to know. Know that there is, that there isn't, that there may be, that it is good, or bad, or whatever. To those that deny Christianity, you cannot say no, with absolution. For those that are Christians, you cannot say that all that happens around us must be explained biblically, or it is bad. We call upon the name of the Lord in times of uncertainty because we do not know. We do not know folks. Otherwise faith would not be the key word of believers, and non believers also. "

We could not compare the audio clip to any "breathe, nose rub, Clothing, shoes, position changes, nor were any appliances kicking on or off, no traffic was passing by, etc" In addition, we stay in groups of two to reduce the question "did you say that". Trust me, there are even times where I question our own evidence if I didnt get it myself, yet I have always trusted the credibility of my members. "

If I want to feel the presence of god, I need only look into the eyes of my baby granddaughter and there I find him. I can go to the banks of the river, and walk beside it and in the whisper and slice of that river I can find him. God is in us all...and I truely believe that god cares more about how we treat each other than whether we idolize him or not. "

As for you sceptics, when was the last time that Satan helped you? Our souls don't die, we just change energy form. That is what spirits are.. energy masses. Some continue to be earthbound until their unresolved business is attended to. Communication with spirits is not looking for trouble, but there are other evil forces to avoid. "

" Why so much fuss about religion vs. spirits? Why not look outside the box to see what else is out there, instead of taking everything for granted; we live, we die, that's it? See for yourself if it's fact or fiction before judging. Besides, what would've happened to religion back in Jesus' day if those claiming to see angels or hearing their voices speak to them were dismissed? Or those who saw Jesus after he had been crucified? How about your local priest who says he hears the word of God on a daily basis? Don't dismiss hastily. "

We all interpret things different ways, just like the bible bashers have there opinions as soon as something has even a minute speck of religious context and even then if it doesn't they find a way of turning it into a religious debate. "I went and brought some groceries today." THAT was Gods will!! Religion is the cause for all the bad things happening in the world today. Do not kid yourselves. Religion funds terrorism. "

And apparently it's ok to seek guidance from a big old dude with a beard who lives in the sky but not from actual spirits (including spirit guides) who are always with us and connected to us? C'mon out of the dark ages, people! "

I am not lnocking anyone, I would just like to keep an open mind to the possibility of the miracle that we would be successful one day to breach the barrier between our world and the place where our deceased loved ones now reside. Our Creator has given us a mind to use to learn and face challenges, such as solving mysteries for example. Thanks for listening (reading). "

Words are first electrical thoughts and travel like radio waves thru the air & seconds after being thought, they are said. I have heard people's thoughts before they are said since I was a little kid. There's a time delay between when they are thought and actually said.I wonder if the tape recorder can pick them up if people are thinking it hard enough? "

" Oh please..pure sass. Some of us have had the priviledge to experience the "phenonium" of what we call spirits which have sparked an interest in gathering facts to apply towards sometype of theory. Some of us are doing the same everyday because of our interest in the 'phenonium" of God's universe using physics, kinda like a recording device itself. Now with the bigbang theory thrown out the window, some of us are using the (m) theory in our fact gathering along with EVPs nothing to be burned at the stake for. Atleast the earth ain't flat anymore. "

Science must continue for progression.

Whenever I hear so-called "EVPs" I laugh because there is obvious fraud or random noises, nothing more. Why are people so afraid of life they have to fear death? Why do they believe in invisible beings (of all kinds) out of this fear? Pitiful. "

There are no need for people to argue about religion b/c Lord knows that is one subject we at LaSpirits stay completely away from when doing our "job". As one reader said, there is no better feeling in the world when we are able to reassure families that what they thought was a "ghost" was actually something such as clinking pipes. There are time, however, when we cannot find logical explainations for events that take place. All we can do is present our findings for you to judge. "
