A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in New Iberia for Edwin J. “Ed” Buford, III, 50, who died Tuesday, January 15, 2008 in New Iberia, after a two-year battle with cancer.

Entombment will follow in St. Michael Mausoleum, in St. Martinville.

The Rev. Steve LeBlanc will be the Celebrant. Readers are Kelly Duplantis and Vicki Holleman. Gift Bearers include Ethan Caubarreaux, Jacob Caubarreaux and Lauren Buford.

A resident of New Iberia, Ed received an associate and bachelor degree from Nicholls State University, and was an environmental specialist for Cleco, with eight years of service. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, avid sports fan, fisherman, and hunter. Most of all, Ed enjoyed spending time with his family. His love and thoughtfulness will forever be in their hearts.

Survivors include his wife Pam H. Buford of New Iberia; parents, Edwin J. Buford, Jr. and Janet Duplantis Buford of New Iberia; step son, Lenny L. Haynie of Maurice; brother, Thad M. Buford and wife Malise of New Iberia; sister, Tressie B. Caubarreaux and husband Brian of Marksville; nieces and nephews, Lauren Buford of Lafayette, Ethan Edwin Caubarreaux of Marksville, Jacob Caubarreaux of Marksville, Janet Caroline Caubarreaux of Marksville, Andrew Allain of Lafayette; uncles and aunts, Harold A. Duplantis and wife Tammy of St. Martinville, Warren R. Duplantis and wife Janice of St. Martinville, Nolan W. Duplantis and wife Dobie of St. Martinville, Helen D. Boutte and husband Curris of New Iberia, Larry C. Duplantis and wife Nancy of St. Martinville, Jerry Lee Duplantis and wife Debbie of Baton Rouge, Aileen D. Broussard of St. Martinville, Carroll J. Duplantis of St. Martinville, Vicki D. Holleman and husband Tommy of New Iberia, Clyde P. Buford and wife Ronnie of New Iberia, Perry Buford and wife Sharon of Corpus Christi, Texas, Marilyn Buford of Lafayette, Gerald Buford and wife Dot of Port Barre.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold A. Duplantis, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Buford, Sr.; uncle, Frederick D. Buford.

Pallbearers will be Thad Buford, Brian Caubarreaux, Jesse Delcambre, Lenny Haynie, Ricky Armentor, and Frank Palm.

Honorary pallbearers include Danny Bourque, Ethan Edwin Caubarreaux, Jacob Caubarreaux, Nolan Lil Noonie Duplantis, and Skip Perry.

A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed tonight at 7 p.m. and visitation will continue Thursday from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
