Man arrested on sex charge

BROUSSARD - A Charenton man was arrested on charges he had sex with a juvenile, police said Friday.

Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou said officers located a suspicious vehicle parked in an alley near Katherine Drexel School around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Upon investigating, officers discovered Brandon Whatley, 22, of Charenton, and a 13-year-old girl from Broussard inside.

Officers questioned the occupants as to what they were doing. They later learned Whatley had been in contact with the girl for several months and recently had sex with her at a park in Broussard, the chief said.

Whatley was charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Decou said the investigation is ongoing to determine how many other times Whatley is alleged to have had sex with the juvenile.
