Fourroux, Conner receive prep honors

Zack Fourroux and Ian Roberts provided Erath with quite a one-two punch last Friday when the Bobcats took on District 6-3A rival North Vermilion.

Fourroux passed for 240 yards and three touchdowns and Roberts rushed for 127 yards and three touchdowns as Erath put a 42-7 pounding on the Patriots to wrap up their district slate with a 3-1 record.

Fourroux edged his teammate and a few other Teche Area high school football players for RC Cola/Daily Iberian Offensive Player of the Week honors for the ninth week of the prep season.

The Bobcats' senior quarterback, whose older brother Derrick is currently starting quarterback at McNeese State University, was an efficient 10-for-14 on the night in leading Erath to its fourth win of the season.

Roberts carried 16 times for an average of nearly eight yards a carry (7.9375), as well as scoring three times.

Other area players with standout offensive performances included New Iberia Senior High quarterback Ryan Clement, who went 14-for-19 for 171 yards and a touchdown in the Yellow Jackets' 34-13 win over St. Martinville; Jeanerette quarterback Kurt Bouie, who completed 16 of 43 attempts for 231 yards and rushed for 19 yards and a TD in a 32-6 loss to District 7-2A rival Livonia; and JSH receiver Maurice Jackson, who had seven catches for 132 yards.

Franklin cornerback Shaquille Conner edged New Iberia linebacker Michael Lamothe for defensive honors.

Conner had eight tackles, recovered a fumble and returned an interception for a touchdown in the Hornets' 42-7 win over District 7-3A and Teche Area rival West St. Mary.

Lamothe had two solo tackles and five assists with a sack and forced a fumble in the Jackets' win over St. Martinville.
