Mayor Hilda Curry hopes everyone in the city will gain interest in the free program.
“It’s time for Louisiana to take a stand against obesity,” said Curry.
“I’m encouraging all New Iberia city employees and residents to sign up for the Louisiana 2 Step.”
New Iberia Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tony Migues, said that a second registration day will be held for the public on Saturday in front of the Sliman Theater.
“This is the kind of thing that the recreation department encourages,” he said. “We want to get people to eat right and to move more.”
Those who cannot come out to join the program can do so for free at www.louisiana2step.com.
The Web site is primarily divided into a section that provides nutrition guides, recipes and tips on making healthy food choices along with a section that allows the user to record the activity and calculate calories burns.
Registration is required for full personalized access.
