Poet's descendant to visit Teche Area

Dr. Layne Longfellow, a distant cousin of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, will be in the Teche Area to make presentations to teachers and students.

Longfellow is a social philosopher who integrates a distinguished academic background with an extensive performing career.

He is the author of “Imaginary Menagerie”, “Visual Feast” and several Lecture Theater audios and videos. He also and co-creator of “Body Talk” and “Feel Wheel,” psychological games released by Psychology Today for professional use.

Longfellow’s most recent written work, “The Language of Commerce Interprets Living Systems,” is in Discourses in Search of Members (University Press of America, 2002).

“Layne Longfellow is a dynamite speaker and is informative but also entertaining,” said Cathy Indest, president of the Iberia Cultural Resource Associa-tion.

“He is scheduled to arrive in New Iberia Oct. 8 and make presentations for teachers from the Iberia Parish school system and Catholic High School on Oct. 9.”

Indest said on Oct. 10 Longfellow will make presentations for students at Catholic High School and at 6 p.m. hold presentations for people at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville.

Longfellow will also make another presentation at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Sliman Theater for the Iberia Cultural Resources Associa-tion.

“We are thrilled to have this nationaly known speaker who entertains and captures the attention of his audience,” Indest said.
