The event, sponsored by The Daily Iberian, features a 50-member concert band. A number of local high school students are taking advantage of an opportunity to perform with the Band of the West.
Musical selections include pieces from the Renaissance to present day, and ranges from serious symphonic band literature to Broadway musicals, from Sousa marches to Top 40 hits, said a spokesman for the band, which is at the end of an eight-day tour that has taken it through Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.

"We have been waiting for an oppoturnity to perform in New Iberia again and put it on the tour plan when this region was selected this year," Sgt. Heather L. Kirschner recently said.
Kirschner, who plays a brass instrument called the euphonium and is one of the band members, also said, "Personally, I enjoy performing for a big audience. It is an incredible feeling when you are doing something that you love, and there are a lot of people who are sharing in the experience. It's hard to believe that we get paid to do this."
Band members are avtive-duty U.S. Air Force personnel. The band is self-sufficient.
Tickets are available at The Daily Iberian, 926 E. Main St. The free tickets are on a first come, first served basis.

I truly am looking forward to seeing IN THE ELECTRIC MIST, especially since TOMMY LEE JONES, one of my all-time favorite actors, is playing the leading role of Dave Robicheaux. Based on what I've read about the character, I think that Tommy is the perfect one to portray Dave because I believe that he(Tommy) will bring to the screen the deep complexities of that character, enabling us as viewers to learn something about the "complete" character well---his pyschological makeup as he struggles against inner and outer forces that confront him.
