Nearby crashes kill one

FOUR CORNERS — Several people were injured and one was killed in two accidents on U.S. 90 in St. Mary Parish.

A Texas man died this morning when his pickup truck rear-ended another truck on U.S. 90.

The driver of the other truck, Edwin Hebert, 57, of Maurice, suffered moderate injuries.

According to state police, Hebert was stopped at a red light at the intersection of U.S. 90 and Louisiana 318 just after midnight when his truck was struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by Neal Pruitt, 39, of Baytown, Texas.

Pruitt was not wearing his seat belt, according to state police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hebert was taken to Abbeville General Hospital. He was wearing his seat belt, according to state police.

Less than a mile away Tuesday afternoon, six people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 90 near Landry’s Truck Stop.

Their names and other details were not immediately available.

The crash involved two vans and a pickup truck. One of the vans and the pickup truck flipped over during the crash.

One man had to be removed from the van by the Four Corners and Jeanerette volunteer fire departments. He was air-lifted to Lafayette General Medical Center.

The five others injured were taken to Iberia Medical Center and Dauterive Hospital. One was an infant.
