An infant is hospitalized and a pregnant woman is in intensive care for injuries they suffered in a three-vehicle crash in New Iberia on Friday.

New Iberia Fire Department spokesman Marty DeLaune said firefighters extricated two women out of a Ford Contour involved in a wreck at the intersection of Washington and Lasalle streets.

Ammy Fusilier said her 8-month-old granddaughter Keibrianna Edwards suffered two broken ribs in the wreck. She said the child is currently being treated at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans.

“She was hurt bad,” Fusilier said. “She was going through so much pain because of her ribs.”

Fusilier said another occupant in the car, Louisiana Bernard, who is pregnant, was still in intensive care at Dauterive Hospital.

Fusilier’s daughter, Brandy Edwards, 22, of New Iberia, and Bernard’s son, who was not identified, were treated at local hospitals and released.

Fusilier said the car her daughter was driving was broadsided by another car. The impact forced Edwards’ car into another car, causing extensive damage.

“That car is like a sandwich,” said Edwards’ aunt, Donna Ellis.

Iberia Parish Sheriff Sid Hebert did not immediately return calls about the wreck.
