Commissioners will consider hiring New Iberia lawyer Jeff Simon as special counsel to conduct a title examination on the land and improvements at 2316 E. Main St., adjacent to property owned by the Iberia Hospital Service District.
Normally, the district attorney’s office handles legal matters for the board. However, J. Wayne Landry, assistant district attorney and board counsel, has pointed out that the office is not insured to provide specialized services needed to carry out the purpose of the title search.

According to the resolution to be considered by the board, the work will be performed at an hourly rate of $100 per hour, not to exceed 50 hours, or $5,000, unless curative title work is required.
In other action regarding the purchase, the board is expected to request approval to advertise for public bids to renovate the building, which will be used for doctors’ offices.
Jeff Boggs, station manager, recently said the station plans to vacate the East Main Street building by the first part of April. He said the station was looking for “downtown windowfront” property.
