Two men drop gun, drugs at pre-school

ST. MARTINVILLE — Two men were arrested after police say they dropped a handgun and a bag of marijuana in a schoolyard while being chased.

Brandon S. Perrio, 19, of Breaux Bridge, and Wendell J. Boyance, 18, of St. Martinville, were charged with possession of marijuana and illegal carrying of weapons.

Both charges are subject to enhanced penalties because the crimes are alleged to have happened in a school zone.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Maj. Ginny Higgins said narcotics agents saw the men standing in the middle of the road at the intersection of Porter and North Theater streets in St. Martinville.

Higgins said, when agents approached the men, they ran. She said they dropped a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun and a bag of marijuana in the backyard of Blooming Babies pre-school on North Theater Street.

Higgins said the men were caught after a short chase. The gun and marijuana were recovered.
