BREAUX BRIDGE — The St. Martin Parish School Board will conduct interviews for its next superintendent Tuesday, then select an applicant to replace the retiring Ellen Rose “Valerie” Haaga immediately following the last interview.
Haaga is scheduled to retire in March, and the elected applicant is scheduled to begin the post April 1, according to James Blanchard, board president.
“At 5 p.m., we will start with the interview process for the next superintendent and to become the next superintendent an applicant will need six votes. The first applicant who receives six votes will become the next superintendent of the St. Martin Parish school system,” said Blanchard.
Richard Lavergne, assistant superintendent of support services with the Caddo Parish School System, will interview at 5 p.m. Michael Faulk, principal at Shepherd High School in Texas, will interview at 6:10 p.m. Deidre Ledbetter, special education teacher with the Lafayette Parish school system, will interview at 7:20 p.m., and Lottie Beebe, director of human resources with the St. Martin Parish school system, will interview at 8:30 p.m.

Richard Lavergne
Bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1974; masters of education degree from Nicholls State University in 1986; plus 30 hours in educational administration and supervision from ULL in 2001. Work experience includes: teacher/coach at Central Catholic High School from 1974-76; teacher/coach at Rayne High School from 1976-77; assistant principal/athletic director/teacher at Central Catholic High School from 1977-82; teacher/coach at Morgan City Junior High School from 1982-84; teacher/coach/assistant principal at Rayne High School from 1984-01; principal at C.E. Byrd High School from 2001-04; assistant superintendent of support services with the Caddo Parish school system from 2004-present.
Michael Faulk
Bachelor’s of science degree from Northeast Louisiana State College in 1970; masters of education, administration and supervision from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1980. Work experience includes: social studies teacher at New Iberia Senior High School from 1970-77; social studies teacher at Loreauville High School from 1977-80; supervisor of transportation and related instruction for the Iberia Parish school system from 1980-84; principal at Magnolia Elementary from 1984-1989; Superintendent of Morehouse Parish School District from 1989-2002; principal at Shepherd High School from 2003-present.
Deidre Ledbetter
Bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1982 and 1993; masters of education in guidance and counseling degree from ULL in 1996; education specialist degree from Louisiana State University in 1998 and education doctorate from Argosy University in 2006. Work experience includes: resource teacher in the Iberia Parish school system from 1982-94; behavioral management specialist in the Iberia Parish school system from 1994-97; Title I family literacy specialist/Iberia homeless education liaison from 1997-2005; link consultant/homebound special education counselor for the Iberia Parish school system from 2005-06; special education teacher with the Lafayette Parish school system from 2006-present.
Lottie Beebe
Associate of arts degree in 1982 and bachelor of arts degree in education from Louisiana State University in 1984; masters of education from LSU in 1991; masters plus 30 from LSU and Southern University in 1996. Work experience includes: teacher at Palmetto Elementary from 1984-90; resource teacher at Cecilia Junior High School from 1991-98; Cecilia High School assistant principal from 1998-99; principal at Cecilia Primary from 2000-02; director of human resources for the St. Martin Parish school system from 2003-present.
