The march, sponsored by the Martin Luther King Committee, began at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, went down Martin Luther King Street and ended at Trinity Baptist Church on Main Street. The West St. Mary High School Jr. ROTC led the procession.
Once at the church, the Rev. Benny Druilhet began by wishing everyone a "Happy Martin Luther King Day."
"This is one thing we need to foster more, wishing everyone a happy Martin Luther King Day," he said. "It encapsulates all other holidays together."
Herbert Joseph, president of St. Mary Parish's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said the purpose of Monday's celebration was to thank King for all he had done.
"March today, march tomorrow, march on election day -that's the most important," he said.
The Rev. Allen Randle en-couraged the youth to dream like King dreamed.
"He dreamed boys and girls could walk hand in hand," he said. "We don't dream enough.
Your dreams will come true. Had not his dream come true, we would not be here in this church, caucasian and black together."
He also encouraged young people to follow King's lead and make a difference.
